Golden Milk Recipe for a Full, Creamy and Delicious Latte

Latte lovers tend to underestimate the amount of caffeine a latte can disguise in its creamy, frothy goodness. This is why having a caffeine-free Golden Latte mix at hand can be so useful for tackling your latte cravings, without suffering the rollercoaster of caffeine jitters and crashes, while also enjoying unbelievable health benefits of ground turmeric and warming spices!

In this blog, we’ll give you the perfect Golden Milk recipe that is sure to replace all your coffee-based latte cravings and have you reaching for your spice mix every morning.

You’ll Need:

Milk: Creamy plant-based milks like cashew milk or canned coconut milk works best for this recipe. If you prefer dairy, whole milk is perfect for a latte but skimmed milk is also fine.

Golden Milk Latte Turmeric Mix: For potent flavors and health benefits, we recommend organic ground turmeric for your latte. If you have access to fresh turmeric, you can simply use any spice grinder or food processor to make your own ground turmeric. If not, you can also check out our fresh and 100% organic Golden Milk mix, harvested off the mineral-rich farms of Eastern Nepal.

Spices: Fresh ginger, peeled and ground, fresh ground cardamom, ground cloves or nutmeg. You can also customize your own spice mix to suit your taste.

Syrup: You can use natural sweetener like Honey, or vegan options like Maple or Yacon syrup. You can also use sugar syrup – choose a sweetener that is best for you!

Frother or Steamer: This is optional, but whipping up a froth can give your latte the extra foaminess of traditional lattes.

Ingredients for a Single Serving of Golden Milk Latte:

  • 2 cups of milk of your choice.
  • 1 scoop of Golden Milk mix
  • 1 tsp of ground ginger
  • 1 tsp of cardamom
  • 1 - 4 tsp of a sweetener of your choice

Note: Ground Spices are optional if you're using Nepal Tea Collective's Golden Milk spice mix, which already contains fresh and organic ground ginger, organic cardamom powder, and organic black pepper powder.

Instructions for a single serving of Golden Milk Latte:

Step 1: Heat your milk on the stove until it simmers. Turn the heat down and whisk your milk until slightly frothy. You can also use a steamer, if you have one.

Step 2: Add your Golden Milk mix and spices to the milk, and stir until the spices are completely dissolved. Your Golden Milk should take on a creamy, off-white color and smooth consistency.

Step 3: Add your sweetener to the Golden Milk, and stir until dissolved.

Step 4: Turn off the heat and let your Golden Milk cool for a minute before whisking for extra frothiness. (Optional)

Step 5: Pour your Golden Milk into your serving mug, and add your foam on top.

Pro Tip: For an extra kick, you can add a touch of black pepper to your latte. You can also add a sprinkle of cinnamon powder over your latte as a finishing touch. Explore more recipes.

If you want to make an iced latte, simply allow your Golden Milk to cool down before pouring over ice. Serve cold.

Health Benefits of Golden Milk:

In Nepal, Golden Milk is an age-old recipe. Also called Dudh Besar in Nepali, this recipe has graced the kitchens of our mothers and grandmothers, who always have an array of freshly ground spices and milk off the farms at hand.

While this Ayurvedic drink is associated with plenty of health benefits, the spices and hot milk that goes into the Golden Milk is most associated with warming the body from within. Golden Milk is especially used to cure colds. Besides, all the spices, primarily turmeric, that go into this latte have antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

So while this drink can offer multiple health benefits, especially if you drink it consistently, here is an overview of all the ways Golden Milk can improve your health:

May Aid in Digestion:

Ginger and turmeric are often used separately to tackle nausea and upset stomachs. Used together, the Golden Milk can stave off any nausea caused by indigestion, period cramps, pregnancy, or the use of medicines like antibiotics. As ginger and turmeric both have calming and anti-inflammatory properties, they are very potent cures for stomach pains.

Tackles sore throats and colds:

In the Ayurvedic tradition, the Golden Milk blend is a very robust warming agent for your body. This drink is said to create heat in your body from within, and cure any aches and pains you have caused by a bad cold or flu.

Of course, if you have an infection, it is best to use Golden Milk as an aid alongside any medication you are taking. Please proceed with Ayurvedic solutions after consulting with your doctor.

May improve skin health:

Both ginger and turmeric are packed with antioxidant compounds that are important in reducing inflammation in your cells. With less oxidative stress, your skin is able to better repair itself, giving you a healthy glow from within.

May reduce brain fog and improve mood:

Fresh, organic turmeric has been associated with improved cognitive function, focus, and uplifted moods. Turmeric has been shown to contain a compound called curcumin, which is linked to boosting the production of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, which supports learning, focus, and moods by supporting brain function.

When consumed with black pepper in a Golden Latte, like our recipe above, your body is able to absorb higher levels of curcumin.

May help you regulate your sleep cycle:

Turmeric is believed to promote restful and uninterrupted sleep. When consumed warm in a soothing latte, Golden Milk can help you get a good night’s rest. Read more here.
